KeramikDoku – Lehrvideos zur standardisierten Dokumentation keramischer Funde in der Archäologie (Claussen-Simon-Fonds für Wissenschaft & Hochschule)
Educational Videos for the Standardised Documentation of Ceramic Finds in Archaeology
The project aims at producing educational videos to teach basic skills in documenting ceramic finds on archaeological excavations. Finds of ceramic vessels are quantitatively the most frequently occurring source genre on excavations. Their changing form, material and decoration provide answers to a number of important questions regarding ancient every day culture. However, such finds are usually extremely fragmented, so that researchers have to start from small fragments in order to identify the respective vessel forms. In order for this decisive methodological step to remain comprehensible in the further scientific process, an exact documentation of the fragments is necessary. Knowledge of documentation procedures and standards is therefore crucial for successful archaeological fieldwork. The educational videos planned in the frame of the project will be developed together with students. They will help to establish a sustainable teaching of the manual processes involved in ceramic find processing. The educational videos will be freely available on the homepage of the Miletus project.
